Goals
VAccess-MAGIC is a regional and data products consortium, promoting
the usage of NASA and other remote sensing data and GIS products for
the benefit of state, regional and local application users. VAccess
- MAGIC provides:
- Data, information products, tools, education, services and
web-accessible databases
- Peer Reviewed electronic publications on RS applications
- Remote sensing solutions to environmental and other challenges
identified by VAccess-MAGIC including scientists, technologists,
decision-makers, regulators, policy-makers and other end users
- Analysis tools, collaboration techniques, and expertise in
GIS/RS
Objectives
The VAccess-MAGIC objectives are: Leverage the initial
VAccess infrastructure (that satisfies the VAccess team needs and selected
Commonwealth agency user community needs based on their input and the
initial prototypes) and extend it beyond the Commonwealth to the broader
MAGIC group and Maryland agencies, as well introduce new technology
applications based on advanced instruments, e.g. airborne LIDAR and
hyperspectral satellite technologies, as well as ground data collections
create new, technologically advanced versions of Virginia-Maryland–oriented,
remote sensing, web-based products, tailored for the team and selected
user community needs beginning with Land Use/Land Cover and Hydrology
applications conduct education and training programs in remote sensing
and GIS technologies and applications
Expand the HRPT NOAA and other satellites receiving station at GMU,
downloading data and developing applications to provide student training
in RS and test overall access including remote data access to VAccess-MAGIC
information holdings – (Note that GSFC has stopped creating new
AVHRR data/information products due to funding restrictions).
