Ocean Color Remote Sensing

Project leader: Dr. Suhung Shen (L), GMU

Background

The high priority of planning for and implementation of SeaWifs data set (September 1997 through the present) re-processing is delaying this task The effort will continue once re-processing has been completed.

Technical Approach

Identification of ocean color remote sensing parameters for clear water, deep water and coastal regions for VAccess – MAGIC users will continue. The 1-km ocean color data, archived in the GDAAC, are Level 1A products. Each file holds partial swath data, containing the raw radiance count. In order to get the projected useful physical parameters within an area of interest, a “Simple, Scalable, Script-based, Science Processor (S4P) data processing system is in development. This automated system will retrieve, extract regional data from the original file, process data to calculate required physical parameters, and map data onto a desired projection. The subsetting and data processing will use algorithms in SeaDAS, a free software for SeaWIFS data analysis.
Milestones

4th Quarter Ocean color remote sensing parameters for VAccess
